Inspired by the craftsmanship of Thuringian glass blowers, Handwerker was created as a new interpretation of the traditional forest glass with its distinct green colour, linked to the iron contents of Thuringian forest soils. Glass objects made in the manufactory of Lauscha are often produced with so much perfection that they can hardly be differenciated from indutrialized mass produced glass.
Bringing the glass blower into the center of the production process, each craftsman leaves an individual mark deforming the glass by simply holding on to it with a heat resistant glove, which is typically used in the workshops. This imprint is a link to – and trace of – its unique manufacturing process and at the same time allows the user to comfortably hold the glass. The series consists of a glass and a decanter, each a little different to another. Handwerker was designed in collaboration with Maiella Di Donato and awarded with DINEUS 2020.
